A “dichiarazione di valore” (declaration of value) is a declaration by which the Consular Office assesses the qualifications obtained abroad in relation to the local education system. However, it does not assess their correspondence to Italian school or university qualifications as it will be up to the relevant Italian institutions (Ministry of Education; Universities, etc.) to subsequently establish if a foreign qualification has an Italian equivalent.
Foreigners and Italians residing abroad can access Italian universities by submitting an application to the Consulate, which must be accompanied by the required documentation. This documentation has to be approved by the competent Italian authorities, based on the evaluation of the qualifications obtained abroad.
The Consulate must also ascertain and certify that high school education qualifications allow admission to university courses in the country in which they were obtained (“Declaration of value”).
