Is it mandatory to register the death certificate?

Transcribing a death certificate is mandatory, as the death must be registered in Italy.

How much does it cost?

The registration of the death certificate in the Comune in Italy, if carried out through this Consulate, is completely free.

What documents do I need to submit?

• Copy of a valid identity document of the person requesting the transcription;
• simple copy of the original certificate issued by the Births, Deaths & Marriages office to be sent by ordinary mail or by email to the Consulate;
• to be returned to the Consulate, the Italian passport of the deceased, if still valid.

Do I have to make an appointment?

No need to book an appointment.

The transcription of the death certificate can be done without an appointment during the opening hours to the public. Alternatively, the documentation can be sent:
