On Saturday 2 December the Italian community in South Australia welcomed the new Consul of Italy in South Australia Dr. Ernesto Pianelli and his family during the awards ceremony of the “Progetto Donna Awards” organized by Com.It.Es. SA.
Speakers included, among others, the Hon. Zoe Bettison MP representing Premier of South Australia, the Hon Peter Malinauskas MP, the Hon. Jing Lee MLC representing the Opposition Leader the Hon. David Spears MP and the president of Com.It.Es. SA Prof. Marinella Marmo.
Consul Pianelli, in a passionate speech in Italian and English, recalled the ancient and modern migrations, also sharing his family experiences and expressing his closeness to the migrants of the South Australian community. Dr. Pianelli pointed out that today’s migration, although still numerically persistent, have a different character compared to the migration of the 50s and 60s: professionals, doctors, scientists and architects today contribute to promoting abroad a new Italy which is style, diversity, creativity and innovation. Lastly, addressing the public, Dr. Pianelli urged everyone to “get inspired by modern Italy in every event, by the cultural and economic power that it represents, in order to involve the young generations and to give space to women who are still very underrepresented”.
