The Consulate of Italy in Adelaide is proud to announce for the second year, the partnership with the State Opera South Australia for 2025, continuing a shared commitment to celebrating and promoting the timeless beauty of Italian opera.
This year’s collaboration shines a spotlight on the art of Bel Canto—literally “beautiful singing”—featuring the masterworks of iconic Italian composers such as Bellini, Rossini, Donizetti, and more.
A highlight of the program will be a special recital by internationally acclaimed soprano Helena Dix, praised by critics as “the most exciting voice since Joan Sutherland.” Dix, whose career spans prestigious opera stages around the globe, will be accompanied by State Opera’s Head of Music, Anthony Hunt. Together, they will present a selection of exquisite arias and art songs in a one-time-only performance on Sunday 31 August, at 2:30pm, at the breathtaking UKARIA Cultural Centre.
In addition to the recital, the partnership will include a special Italian Opera Masterclass, focusing on the style and technique of Bel Canto and the vital role of the Italian language—the traditional language of opera. The Masterclass will be open to students and will also welcome members of the public as observers, offering a rare opportunity to witness the art of opera training up close.
