International Women’s Day: unveiling of the red bench

Red Bench

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, 8 March 2025, the Consulate of Italy in Adelaide and the City of Norwood Payneham and St. Peters, in collaboration with Australia Donna Association, inaugurated the city’s first “Red Bench.” The initiative is part of the Red Rose Foundation’s commitment to raise awareness on domestic and family violence in Australia. This symbol, which represents the empty space left by a woman victim of femicide, stands as a commitment to equality, gender parity, and the fight against gender-based violence. Adelaide joins Canberra, which on the 25 November 2024, inaugurated its own red bench in the courtyard of the Italian Embassy as part of the campain “Orange the World: End Violence Against Women Now” and the international campaign to keep the focus on a social issue that remains too widespread. Thanks are also extended to the following associations: Com.It.Es., SAIA, Co.As.It, Dante Alighieri Society, Fogolar Furlan, and Radio Italiana 531.
