On the occasion of the Week of Italian Language and Culture in the World, the Italian Consulate in South Australia will host a delegation from the Santa Cecilia Conservatorium of Music of Rome in Adelaide, as part of its cultural diplomacy initiatives aimed at strengthening relations and exchanges between Italian and Australian cultural institutions, with a particular focus on collaboration with the Elder Conservatorium of Music and the Adelaide University.
To honour and celebrate this important visit by one of the world’s most renowned music conservatoriums, Maestro Michelangelo Galeati has been invited by the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide to conduct the Elder Symphony Orchestra. The concert will take place on 23 October at 1:10 pm at Elder Hall. Link for the concert here
As part of the visit, the university student-focused event “Opera: From Tradition to New Audiences” will explore the relationship between the Italian language, culture and opera, as well as new ways in which opera can engage with younger generations.
Maestro Michelangelo Galeati, conductor and lecturer at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory, will engage in a conversation with students from the Elder Conservatorium of Music and the University of Adelaide, complemented by musical examples and live performances. The event will also introduce Opera out of Opera, a project exploring new contexts, forms of expression and ways of experiencing opera, with the aim of bringing it closer to new audiences and younger generations.
The musical programme will feature soprano Alice Gavagnin, a student at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory, accompanied on piano by Prof. Roberto Giuliani, together with musicians from the Elder Conservatorium of Music.
