On 2 June, the Consulate of Italy, in collaboration with the South Australian Department of the Premier and Cabinet, hosted celebrations marking the 80th Anniversary of the Italian Republic at the historic Mortlock Chamber of the State Library of South Australia in Adelaide.<\/p>\n
Among the distinguished guests were the Premier of South Australia, Hon. Peter Malinauskas, co-organiser of the event; Hon. Nadia Clancy MP, Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Master of Ceremonies for the evening; Hon. Lucy Hood MP, Minister for Education; Hon. Chris Picton MP, Minister for State Development; and Hon. Joe Szakacs MP, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport. Numerous other Members of Parliament from both Government and Opposition also attended, highlighting the strong bilateral ties between Italy and Australia.<\/p>\n
The event brought together prominent figures from a wide range of sectors, including education, business, design, science, and technology, underscoring Italy\u2019s significant role within the local cultural and professional community.<\/p>\n
To mark Ducati\u2019s centenary, Solitaire Motors displayed two iconic Ducati motorcycles at the entrance of the library, adding a touch of prestige to the occasion. During the ceremony, Consul Ernesto Pianelli conferred the honour of Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic upon Professor John Beltrame, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to academia and cultural relations.<\/p>\n
A highlight of the evening was a captivating musical performance by students of the Elder Conservatorium of Music, led at the piano by Conservatorium Director Anna Goldsworthy and joined by renowned baritone Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Head of Classical Voice. The performance offered guests an exceptional artistic experience, celebrating Italy\u2019s rich musical heritage and the enduring cultural collaboration between the two countries.<\/p>\n
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the First-Class Italian Consulate in South Australia, the Consul also presented a commemorative volume retracing the history and evolution of the Consulate through a collection of photographs and historical documents. The publication highlights the strong and productive relationship between Italy and South Australia.
