{"id":464,"date":"2023-01-16T01:11:50","date_gmt":"2023-01-15T14:41:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consadelaide.esteri.it\/?page_id=464"},"modified":"2023-10-25T10:01:53","modified_gmt":"2023-10-24T23:31:53","slug":"registration-of-marriage","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/consadelaide.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/stato-civile\/registration-of-marriage\/","title":{"rendered":"Registration of Marriage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Do I need to register my\u00a0marriage?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0registration of the act of marriage is mandatory and must be registered in Italy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How much does it cost?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0registration of a marriage in the Council\u2019s records is completely free if done through the Consulate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<strong>What documents should I submit?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 The registration request form filled in and signed by the applicant (available in the \u2018Forms\u2019 section or <a href=\"https:\/\/consadelaide.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/modulo_richiesta_di_registrazione_certificati_di_stato_civile.pdf\">click here)<\/a>;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 An original copy of the marriage certificate issued by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sa.gov.au\/topics\/family-and-community\/births-deaths-and-marriages\">&#8221;Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages<\/a>&#8221; with apostille from the \u201c<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartraveller.gov.au\/consular-services\/notarial-services\/documents-in-australia\">Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade<\/a><\/strong>\u201c;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 A photocopy of the marriage certificate and apostille;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 A translation into Italian (not necessarily done by an official translator);<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 A photocopy of the translation;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Photocopies of the passports of both spouses;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 A photocopy of the birth certificate of the foreign spouse (personal details registered on the birth certificate must coincide with the details recorded on the marriage certificate).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Do I need to make an appointment?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">No<\/span> need to book an appointment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The transcription of the marriage certificate can be made without an appointment by submitting the required documentation in person at the Consulate during the public opening hours.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alternatively, the documents may be sent via regular mail to the following address:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Italian Consulate<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Unit 3\/215 Port Road<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hindmarsh S.A. 5007<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How soon can my wife\/husband apply for Italian citizenship?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After\u00a0three years of marriage it is possible to apply for the Italian citizenship (timing will be halved if minor children are born from the marriage).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After obtaining citizenship, he\/she can also request an Italian passport.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For the process, please refer to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/consadelaide.esteri.it\/it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/cittadinanza\/cittadinanza-per-matrimonio-o-unione-civile\/\">appropriate section<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Do I need to register my\u00a0marriage?
