On 6 and 7 February , Adelaide’s Showground was theatre of “Carnevale” – Italian Festival. The event was a huge success registering the presence in the two days of several thousand people, including many young people of the Italian-Australian community.
Adelaide’s Carnevale is the most important Italian community event in South Australia; the event which celebrates not only numerous Italian cultural traditions, but also the sharing of such traditions with the Australian community, in a spirit of friendship and enrichment between the two countries.
The official opening was attended by about 4,000 people and several dignitaries, including the Governor of South Australia, H.E. Hon. Hieu Van Le, the Premier of the State, Hon. Jay Weatherill, Steven Marshall MP, Leader of the Opposition and several members of the Italian-Australian community of Adelaide, all gathered together to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this important event. Guests of honour, H.E. Pier Francesco Zazo, Ambassador of Italy in Australia and Hon. Marco Fedi, deputy of the Democratic Party elected in Australia .
Consul Roberta Ronzitti in her speech stressed the importance of these 40 years of “Carnevale” in Adelaide, especially for the philanthropic purpose of the event. The proceeds of the event, in fact, are used to finance projects of assistance for the Italian-Australian elderly members of the community living in Adelaide.
