                'Born under a Star of Comedy:' Who was Carlo Goldoni's Master?
Carlo Goldoni's “Servant of Two Masters" has drawn the admiration of writers from
Goethe onwards, and has been produced by many of Europe's finest directors from Meyerhold
to Giorgio Strehler, yet its composition was a result of certain chance circumstances.
So what is the nature of this work?

University of Strathclyde, editor of A Servant to Two Masters (2011) and Carlo Goldoni and 18thC Theatre (1997); and translator of plays by Goldoni. He is a frequent contributor to radio arts programmes both in London and Scotland, and reviews regularly for several newspapers, including The Times Literary Supplement.

The lecture will be followed by a free screening of Goldoni’s play
“Arlecchino servitore di due padroni”
directed by Giorgio Strehler (Italian, no English subtitles)
