VISIT TO SOUTH AUSTRALIA BY THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE BASILICATA REGION, VINCENZO SANTOCHIRICO (23-27 NOVEMBER 2009).
From the 23rd to the 27th of November 2009, a delegation from the Regione Basilicata, led by local Minister for Environment, Assessore Vincenzo Santochirico, visited South Australia. This visit follows a South Australian official visit to Basilicata last September, led by Grace Portolesi, MP.

The program included a meeting with the Minister for Science, Michael O’Brien; visits to various research centres; and a teleconference with the Australian Space Research Institute in Canberra.

On 25 November, Assessore Santochirico and Premier Rann signed a Memorandum of Understanding which will foster scientific, economic and technological co-operation between the Regione Basilicata and South Australia, mainly in the field of remote sensing. This will also involve joint research projects and exchanges between graduate students.

The Memorandum (MoU) with the Regione Basilicata is part of a broader policy of the Rann Government aimed at promoting relations with the Italian Regions. MoUs have already been signed with the Puglia Region in 2007 and with the Calabria Region last month.
