On the 7th of July the Sicilia Club held its annual "Sicilia Gala Night".
The evening was a celebration of the Sicilian Community in Adelaide, with delicious renown dishes from Sicily.

Among the guests there was the Leader of the Opposition, Hon Hamilton Smith, the Mayor of Port Adelaide, Mr Gary Johanson, Vini Ciccarello MP, Grace Portolesi MP and Councilor Tony Barca.

The Consul - that was nominated "honorary gold member" - thanked the President, Biagio Barbaro, and invited all the members to continue the important task of promoting Sicilian traditions in South Australia.

"I encourage you in your new membership campaign to sign up Sicilians that are not presently associated with the club and especially to acquire young people that could be invited to be a part of the Committee", he said.

Another priority, the Consul suggested, could be to strengthen ties with the Sicilian Regional Government in order to bring to Adelaide exhibitions and shows that could be co-financed by the Region.

Finally, Mr Coniglio expressed optimism for the future of the Club, that represents one the most beautiful regions of Italy and of the world and that enjoys a renovated hall and a central location. It would be a pity if the Club decides to keep a low profile and to not participate in the main celebrations of the Italian Community in Adelaide, with its famous stand of cannoli, arancini and other Sicilian delights.
