Date:

MEETING WITH THE CAMPBELLTOWN CITY COUNCIL AND THE ITALIAN COMMUNITY
The Mayor of Campbelltown, Simon Brewer, hosted a reception to welcome the Italian Consul, Tommaso Coniglio. Over one hundred people attended, including numerous Italian businessmen and local politicians, including Grace Portolesi MP, and Lindsay Simmons MP.

In thanking the Mayor and the more than 20 sponsors that offered Italian specialties, the Consul said that Campbelltown is to be considered the Italian Australian City: more than a quarter of its inhabitants can claim Italian origin; the atmosphere of city’s streets and cafés is very similar to that of an Italian town.

Campbelltown embodies the remarkable gastronomic tradition and the extraordinary entrepreneurship of Italians.

The Consulate is proud to acknowledge the achievements of many Italians that, through hard work and strong commitment, where able to open their own business and leave the difficult times behind. They are now to be considered Ambassadors of the traditions they brought to Australia for the first time.

The Consul and the Mayor agreed that there will be various common initiatives in the future to highlight the contribution of the local Italian Community.
