Doing business in Italy

Doing business in Italy

Italy is the world's eighth largest economy for its nominal GDP and the third largest in the European Union. Thanks to its geopolitically strategic position, Italy represents a very interesting commercial and economic hub: doing business in Italy means having easy access to the rest of Europe, as well as having connections with North Africa and the Middle East.

Italy is the number one in the luxury sector with 24 companies in the global TOP 100. The food sector is growing and today it is worth EUR 41billion. However, Italian excellence is not only related to the luxury, fashion, and food markets: Italy is a great exporter in many sectors. For example, at present it is the leading European exporter of bicycles, medicines and pharmaceutical products. As far as concerns Italo-Australian economic relations, the most demanded Italian goods in Australia are machinery, food and beverage. Australia, on the other hand, mainly exports to Italy products from mines. In addition, in recent years Italy has been promoting and investing in research and innovation - in particular in the fields of neuroscience and robotics -, two areas more and more intertwined with the industrial processes.
