By Decree of the President of the Republic of 27th September 2016, published in the Italian Official Gazette “Gazzetta Ufficiale” No. 227 of 28th September 2016 a CONSTITUTIONAL CONFIRMATORY REFERENDUM has been called for Sunday, 4th December 2016 with the following referendum question:

Do you approve the text of the Constitutional Law on "provisions for exceeding the equal bicameralism, reducing the number of MPs, containing the costs of the institutions, abolishing the CNEL and revising Title V of Part II of the Constitution” approved by Parliament and published in the Official Gazette No. 88 of 15 April 2016?

Voters living abroad and registered in AIRE

The voters residing abroad and registered in AIRE (Register of Italians living abroad) will receive, as usual, the ballot papers at their home address. If the voter does not receive it, a duplicate can be requested at the Consular Office. It is a duty for the citizen to inform the competent CONSULAR OFFICE about their residential address.

Those who, having registered in AIRE, intend to vote in Italy, must submit to the competent CONSULAR OFFICE a special declaration on plain paper that states: name, surname, date and place of birth, place of residence, indicating the Italian town of registration, an indication of the consultation for which the elector intends to exercise the option. The declaration must be dated and signed by the voter and accompanied by a photocopy of an identity document of the applicant, and can be sent by mail (398 Payneham Road, Glynde SA 5070) by e-mail ( even not certified, or brought directly to the CONSULAR OFFICE, even by another person, by the 8th October 2016, with possibility of revocation within the same period.


Voters temporarily abroad

Italian voters who for reasons of work, study or medical care are temporarily abroad for a period of at least three months in which falls the date of conduct of the referendum, as well as their family, their cohabiting partners, may participate in the vote by correspondence organized by the Italian consular offices (law 459 of 27 December 2001, comma 1 art 4-bis), receiving the ballot papers at their overseas address.

Those voters who wish to participate in the vote should send at their town of electoral registration, until the 2nd November 2016,(with possibility of revocation within the same period, an option valid for the consultation (in this case for the Referendum of the 4th December 2016). The option can be sent by mail, by fax, by e-mail also not certified, or be taken personally to the town even by another person (in the website there are certified e-mail addresses certified of Italian municipalities).

The option declaration written on plain paper must be accompanied by a valid identity document of the voter, must in all cases contain the foreign postal address to which the ballot papers should be sent, indicating the Consular Office responsible for the area and a declaration certifying that they meet the requirements for admission to voting by mail (be for work, study or medical treatment in a foreign country in which the voter is not resident for a period of at least three month from the Referendum date; or to be cohabiting family member of a citizen who is in these conditions).

The declaration must be made in accordance with Articles 46 and 47 of the Presidential Decree of 28 December 2000, n. 445 (consolidating the legislative and regulatory provisions on administrative documentation), declaring himself/herself aware of the legal consequences in case of false declarations (art. 76 of Presidential Decree 445/2000).
