The individual tax number (codice fiscale) is an instrument of identification of a person/people in their relations with Italian public institutions and ministries and is issued by the Tax Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate).
It can be requested overseas both by Italians and foreigners through the Consular Office.The tax number is issued immediately upon application through the service Fisconline of the “Agenzia delle Entrate”.
NOTE: “codice fiscale” for married women is generated on the basis of their maiden name unless they legally changed last name as proven by the updated birth certificate from “Birth, Death, Marriage Registration Office”.
To request a tax number at a Consular Office it is necessary to complete a form and show an identification document, bring it in person to the Consulate or send it via email (consolato.adelaide@esteri.it), together with a valid ID document with a proof of address.
