Renewal of Italian Driver’s Licence

Requirements:

  • Regularly enrolled in AIRE or residents of Australia for at least 6 months - proof of stay in Australia is determined by the most recent passport arrival stamp into Australia;
  • The driver’s licence must not have expired by more than 3 years.

 

Is it necessary to make an appointment?

No. It is sufficient to come to the Consulate during opening hours to the public. Please email the Consulate: consolato.adelaide@esteri.it for any enquiries.

 

Documentation to be submitted:

  1. a valid identity document ;
  2. medical certificate issued by the Consulate’s authorized doctor. There is a fee for the medical certificate to pay directly to the doctor by the applicant.

  • a passport size photo;
  • original driver’s licence and a photocopy of it;
  • consular fee in Australian dollars. The cost varies each term, therefore it is advisable to see dedicated section

 

Will I get a new driver’s licence?

The renewal at the Copnsulate consists in a certificate of renewal and it is valid for driving both in Italy and overseas.

When your residency is re-established in Italy, you will need to contact by the appropriate central office of the Department of Transport, Navigation and Information and Statistical Systems.
