AIRE Registration (FASTIt)

Law no. 470 of 1988, states that Italian citizens transferring their residency abroad, must register with AIRE within 90 days from their arrival, by making a declaration to the competent consular office. Even those who migrated before 1988 have to register.

This registration is necessary to be able to benefit of all the services provided by the Italian Consulate, to vote for elections in Italy and to avoid double taxation.

A.I.R.E registration is compulsory for:

  • citizens who transfer their residency abroad for more than 12 months ;
  • those who already reside here, either because they were born abroad or for subsequent acquisition of Italian citizenship for any reason.

A.I.R.E. registration is completely free of charge.

 

How can I register in AIRE?

To complete the procedure it is not necessary to book an appointment or come to the Consulate.

You can register with AIRE online, through the Fast-it portal.

To request AIRE registration via the FAST-IT platform, you need:

- a valid identity document plus the ID document of any
cohabiting family members;

- documentation proving your residence (you can choose a bank statement, utility bill, driver's licence, lease contract, etc.);

- a printer;

- a scanner

In order to upload your application, you need:

1. access to the website (by clicking here) and complete the registration procedure;

2. click on "Consular and AIRE Registry" and on "Request registration in the Italian Foreign Abroad Registry", carefully reading the
instructions that appear on the video;

3. enter the requested data. The procedure does not allow you to go to the following screens without first filling out of the mandatory data. However, it is recommended to enter as many details as possible;

4. print and sign the form. Attach an electronic copy of the Italian passport, proof of residence (chosen from bank account, utility
bill, driving license, rental contract). It is possible to combine multiple documents into a single file, where necessary.

The service allows you to submit a single request per household. Also in this case it is recommended not to limit yourself to the
mandatory fields and to enter as many details as possible, in order to avoid your application being rejected.

Once submitted, the application is not automatically accepted: the progress will be communicated in real time and its completion
will be notified with a notice on the home page of the FAST-IT website. For a description of the status of your application, please refer to the appropriate section "Frequently asked questions".

THE FAST-IT PLATFORM ALLOWS TO NOTIFY THE CHANGE OF ADDRESS BUT NOT TO BOOK CONSULAR APPOINTMENTS.
